Position   We offer a position with a large contact surface in a international environment. The primary responsibility of this position is to lead a small team to evaluate and support the development of plant health and plant protection products based on biologicals and synthetic chemistries, targeted for crop and non-crop uses.  The successful candidate will develop, validate and implement bioassays and greenhouse test programs to evaluate product leads and concepts for plant health enhancement as well as management of insects, diseases, nematodes and weeds.   Responsibilities  

• Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to FMC company policies and procedures.
• Lead and develop the staff in the Applied Biology Laboratory and Greenhouse facility.
• Work closely with other FMC teams to define work plans, deliverables and schedule work according to diverse project and stakeholder needs.
• Efficiently organize and plan daily activities in the Applied Biology Laboratory and Greenhouse operations.  Propose, design, conduct, analyze and report on complex laboratory and greenhouse experiments to screen, evaluate and characterize the activity of new product leads.
• Insure Standard Operating Procedures and protocols are maintained and applied.
• Create, optimize and validate unique, effective, state-of-the art assay systems and procedures in a fast-paced R&D environment

    Profile   We seek a broadly knowledgeable, creative and technologically superior scientist and leader with an established track record of successful research and product development, preferably for both biologicals and synthetic chemistries, and who knows how to challenge and motivate others to achieve aggressive goals. The preferred candidate will possess a PhD in plant pathology, nematology, entomology or other relevant scientific discipline with a minimum of 5-10 years of experience in greenhouse studies, preferably within the agrochemical industry.  

• Thorough understanding and attention to laboratory and greenhouse safety practices.
• Previous experience in supervising and leading professionals, preferably in a matrix organization
• Experience in project-based R&D.
• Experience in developing and conducting bioassays. Strong understanding of either plant pathology, nematology and/or entomology and experimental design. Ability to set clear experimental objectives, conduct assays, make keen observations, analyze data, provide conclusions and recommendations relevant to various R&D stakeholders.
• Understanding of statistics and quality control and the ability to utilize statistical analysis on biological data to answer specific questions and develop scientifically valid conclusions and recommendations. 
• Self-starter and able to work in a fast-paced cross-functional and multicultural environment.
• Excellent communication skills, strong attention to details and ability to multitask/prioritize activities.
• Working knowledge of database systems for recording and displaying laboratory and greenhouse bioassay data and effectively communicate results
• Fluent in English
