PhD scholarship in Microcontainers for Oral Vaccine Delivery

DTU Nanotech conducts cross-disciplinary research where micro- and nanotechnology is applied to a wide range of scientific disciplines as well as applications. The Nanoprobes group is a large and highly multi-cultural group, with different research branches focusing on drug delivery, biosensing and environmental monitoring. Responsibilities and tasks The Nanoprobes group at DTU Nanotech wishes to employ a PhD student for 3 years to work in a highly interdisciplinary project focusing on investigating and realising micrometer sized polymer containers for oral vaccine delivery. The main tasks will be to develop particulate vaccine formulations and to test the effect of those when confined in microcontainers. The vaccine formulations will be tested in vitro and after confinement, the delivery systems will be tested in situ and in vivo. The work will be carried out in close collaboration with different research groups national and international, and within the framework of the recently granted Center of Excellence - IDUN. The successful candidate will play a role in the microcontainer and vaccine activities in the Nanoprobes group, interacting with several members working in different disciplines, such as biology, microfabrication, pharmacology and polymer science. Qualifications The ideal candidate holds a master’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry or engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry or engineering. Approval and Enrolment The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU.
