Research Scientist in Remote Sensing of the Cryosphere

A position as research scientist for remote sensing of the cryosphere is open at the Geodynamics Section, National Space Institute, Technical university of Denmark (DTU Space), for immediate appointment as soon as possible. Responsibilities and tasks The research scientist is expected – in cooperation with other scientists in the department – to carry out independent research within the cryosphere research area, and participate in existing department projects related to the measurement of ice sheets, glaciers, and sea ice with satellites, aircraft, drones and in-situ methods, both in the Arctic and Antarctica. Experience with remote sensing by satellite radar altimetry, laser measurements, glaciological/climatological models will be an advantage. The work will primarily be related to the Department’s ongoing projects in connection with the ESA Climate Change Initiative, cooperative projects related to new satellite missions and monitoring projects for the inland ice and sea ice, and understanding of the relevant physical/glaciological processes for radar and optical measurements of ice. In addition the research scientist is also expected to participate in other research and advisory projects as needed, and participate in education activities in connection with the new DTU Space study program ”Earth and Space Science and Engineering”. Significant travel activities can be expected, especially in connection with field works and airborne campaigns both in Greenland and internationally. Qualifications A PhD in glaciology, geodesy, geophysics or similar is necessary. Experience with satellite work for measuring ice caps or sea ice, and good experience in high-level programming (Python, Fortran, C el. lign.), a basic knowledge of gravity field science, and experience from related field work in the Arctic, will be an asset.
