Copenhagen Local/International Geoscience Ref.: MO-045997 Maersk Oil is offering a position as Senior Exploration Geologist in the Iraqi Kurdistan (Middle East/North Africa) Exploration team, based in our headquarters in Copenhagen. The team is responsible for all exploration work in and around our interests in Iraqi Kurdistan, ranging from play analysis, lead and prospect maturation to planning and drilling of exploratory wells. Our technical work is focused on • Regional geological and geophysical studies; • Prospect maturation; • Evaluations of farm-in and acquisition initiatives; • Identification and mapping of leads and prospects for exploration drilling opportunities, including risking, volumetric assessment and economic viability; • Planning of exploration drilling. The Iraqi Kurdistan Exploration team works closely with geosciences and engineering functions internally and operational geologists and engineers in the operations office in Erbil. Maersk Oil offers a competitive remuneration and social benefits package. Key Responsibilities You will be working as exploration geologist at senior level. The main objective of this position is to contribute to the development of a strong exploration portfolio in the Iraqi Kurdistan region and support the company’s growth plans in this area. The team is responsible for all exploration work in and around our interests in Iraqi Kurdistan, ranging from play analysis, lead and prospect maturation to planning and drilling of exploratory wells. Key responsibilities include working alongside other geoscientists in the team, and perform basin and play analysis, prospect maturation and exploration well planning. More specifically the role entails: • Conduct regional studies to identify and evaluate the exploration potential and make recommendations on growth opportunities for the company; • Integrate all available data sources, validate and share with licence teams; • Screening of farm-in opportunities; • Prospect maturation; • Ensure prospect evaluations are supported by high quality regional basis and seeking peer assists and reviews of work; • Liaison with geophysicists, petrophysicists and reservoir engineers; • Participate in partner meetings; • Technical networking and mentoring of younger staff; • Support to Exploration Business Plans. Who we are looking for As candidate for the position we expect you have a minimum of 8 years oil industry experience with a strong background in exploration geophysics. Moreover, we expect you will bring: • M.Sc. or higher degree in structural geology or geoscience; • Good understanding of play analysis, sequence stratigraphy and well correlations; • Experience in the structural geology fold and thrust belts; • Experience in interpretation of various data (2D/3D seismic, well logs, etc.); • Work experience with geology in the Middle Eastern region; • Knowledge of fractured carbonate reservoirs; • Good working knowledge of probabilistic resource assessment methods and risking; • Ability to challenge the status quo and look for alternative models to keep our technical work at a high level; • Ideally experience of carrying out field work and integration of field data; • Enthusiasm, good communication skills and ability to engage and motivate others; • Hands-on experience with exploration software packages (e.g. Petrel, ArcGIS, Geox); • Fluency in English (spoken and written) Maersk Oil is an international oil and gas company with operated production of about 557,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day from Denmark, the UK, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Brazil and Algeria.
