Postdoc in computational screening of materials for battery cathodes

DTU Energy at the Technical University of Denmark, DTU, invites applications for a 2 year postdoc position in the area of computational screening of materials for battery cathodes. The project is funded by the Villum foundation and is aligned with the Department focus area of batteries. The project also involves collaboration with international academic partners, e.g. the groups of Prof. Yang Shao-Horn at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Prof. Ángel Rubio at the Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter in Hamburg, and Prof. M. Stanley Whittingham at SUNY Binghamton. Project description The successful candidate will develop a theoretical model based on Marcus Theory for the study of polaronic transport in cathode materials of batteries. Once the model is benchmarked against available experimental results in the literature, a screening of possible dopants which improve the electron conductivity at the cathode of Li-ion batteries will be carried out. The project will be carried out in close collaboration with experimental groups. The Ph.D. project will be also linked to other computational projects working on screening of materials for Metal-air batteries and development of algorithms. Qualifications Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in computational/theoretical physics, chemistry or materials science. The successful candidate: •Has good communication skills in English, both written and spoken •Is able to work independently and take responsibility for progress and quality of projects. •Enthusiasm for working in collaboration with experimental groups •Well established skills to work in a team •Strong computer programming skills Assessment The assessment of the applicants will be made by Juan Maria García Lastra and Tejs Vegge.
