DTU Compute now accepts applications for a three-year PhD position starting on May 1st, 2016. The project is financed by The Danish Council for Independent Research. Project Description The aim of the project is research into social spreading in complex networks. The elected applicant will be working on both theoretical models, simulations, and analysis of empirical data stemming from the Copenhagen Network Study and from Twitter. In particular, the project aims at understanding the effect on complex contagion models of the multiplexity and spatiotemporal structure of social networks. Requirements Candidates must have a master’s degree in computational science and engineering (CSE), applied mathematics, physics, or equivalent academic qualifications. Programming skills are essential, and experience with handling massive amounts of data is a plus. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience analysing social/complex networks. Prior interdisciplinary work in the interplay between quantitative science and humanities or social sciences is also an advantage, as well as mastery of written and spoken English. Approval and Enrolment The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in the ITMAN Graduate School Programme of DTU Informatics.
