Two 3-year PhD scholarships are available at DTU Electrical Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). The positions will contribute to our successful research within the field of highly integrated power electronics. During the last six years we have been working on size, weight and cost reduction as well as lifetime improvement of switch-mode power supplies by increasing the switching frequency into the multi-MHz range. The next step is to integrate part of this technology into a package (PSIP – Power System in Package) and finally the integration on chip (PwrSOC – Power System on Chip). Responsibilities and tasks The two PhD projects include research, education and knowledge dissemination. •Within research the candidates will use high voltage integrated circuit (IC) design for universal AC mains connected converters and high-speed power design for the power stage. IC design will also be used for small signal and control circuitry. The research will be in close collaboration with a start-up company (Nordic Power Converters). The candidates will conduct analysis, design, tape-out and experimental verification of state-of-the-art circuits and lay ground for further innovation. •Within education, the candidates will conduct an individual training program based on their needs and interests both within hard and soft skills in the electrical engineering area •Within knowledge dissemination, the candidates will initiate and write publications in world leading journals and international conferences as well as teaching and supervision of students at undergraduate and graduate level. Self-organization, independency as well as group work and written as well as oral communication in English is indispensable. Furthermore knowledge of high voltage CMOS processes, integrated power electronics and/or resonant power converters is advantageous. Qualifications Candidates should have a MSc in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the MSc in engineering. Approval and Enrolment PhD scholarships are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU.
