Vacancy as consultant at the Vascular Surgery Department is open for appointment as soon as possible. About the Department. The Vascular Surgery Department at Kolding Hospital is one of the largest vascular surgical departments in Denmark with high activity in both the treatment of atherosclerosis, aortic aneurysms, venous disorders , dialysis accesses and chronic leg ulcers. In 2011, we performed a total of 1,340 arterial vascular treatments in Kolding (more than 40 % endovascular). In addition1,300 treatments for varicose veins were performed at the venous disorders clinic in Brørup, which is associated with the department in Kolding. Clinical and experimental research has become an important part of the activities of the department. The research group currently includes an Associate Professor/Consultant, two Ph.D. students, and two research nurses. The department provides formalized training for all health professions. The department has approx. 65 employees in Kolding. The medical staff includes 20 positions as medical doctors, including 14 consultants, 1 senior medical officer, 3 junior registrars and 2 senior house officers). Filling of the vacant consultancy should strengthen: - the acute patient care - training of younger medical colleagues - research - the action plan that aims at providing endovascular and hybrid- operations 24/7 - further development of amputation-prevention treatments - further development of the departments clinic for advanced wound care Within recent years, carotid surgery and catheter administered venous thrombolysis have been introduced. Advanced treatment modalities for amputation prevention are important areas of development for the department. The new rostering system, which was introduced in May 2012, means that the consultant is present at the hospital. A younger doctor is on call for assistance for operations. All acute patients at Kolding Hospital are admitted through the Emergency Department and received by a younger doctor. The consultant is expected to see the patients as soon as possible and make a plan for diagnosis and treatment. The activities of the department is spread out on a 20-bed ward in Kolding, outpatient clinics in Kolding, Esbjerg, and Aabenraa, wound clinic in Kolding and venous disorders clinic in Brørup. In addition, dialysis access operations are performed at Fredericia Hospital. We have 16 operating tables per week, and, as a collaboration between vascular surgeons and interventional radiologists, we perform approximately 20 endovascular treatments per week. Danish language proficiency is not required from the start of the employment but basic Danish skills are expected after one year. Teaching in Danish language will be provided by the employer.
