The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark is seeking a candidate for a PhD position in materials and surface engineering of critical wind turbine components under extreme conditions. The PhD position is for a 3-year period and expected to start from July, 2016. Responsibilities and tasks Off-shore wind turbine components are exposed to extreme conditions. The current PhD project will focus on materials solutions for the splash zone, which is exposed to harsh corrosion conditions, and the leading edge of the turbine blade, which is exposed to impact erosion conditions. The project will focus on developing sustainable coating solutions. The project is interdisciplinary and involves collaboration with various academic and industrial partners in the societal partnership Fast Track- Industrial Fast Track towards Materials Endurance (Innovationsfonden). Qualifications Candidates should have a master's degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree in engineering. Approval and Enrolment The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU.
