The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (CFB) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled researcher for managing an industrial collaboration project on engineering lactic acid bacteria. The Center conducts research on metabolic engineering and synthetic biology of microbial and mammalian cell factories for chemical and therapeutic protein production. The successful candidate will manage a project related to the development of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains for chemical production. The position will involve planning, developing and implementing projects, coordinating project activities, collaborating with internals scientific team members and external commercial partners, developing project timelines and measureable milestones, and monitoring progress toward deliverables. This position will also require working with the CFB business development unit members to develop intellectual property. Responsibilities and tasks •Project management for LAB strain engineering projects with commercialization focus •Application of metabolic engineering, synthetic biology, evolutionary engineering, protein engineering and similar strategies for LAB strain development •Application of high throughput screening, genotyping, transcriptomic and other omics data for lead strain characterization and target identification •Data analysis and interpretation •Development of intellectual property strategy for projects including drafting patent applications •Interacting with internal or external scientific and business team members Qualifications •Candidates should hold a PhD degree in bioengineering, chemical engineering, biotechnology, microbiology, molecular biology or similar field •Candidates need to have extensive experience in genetic manipulation, physiology, and culturing of lactic acid bacteria •The applicant should have experience in conducting and managing microbial strain engineering projects •The applicant should have previous experience with analyzing and interpreting high-throughput experimental data including screening and omics data •Strong background in microbiology, physiology and molecular biology is required •Strong knowledge of microbial metabolism, prior experience constructing genomic modifications, and knowledge of CRISPR/Cas9 systems are preferred •Good communication skills in English are required Assessment In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to •scientific production and research potential at international level •innovative skills and the ability to generate new ideas •the ability to communicate at all levels such as the provision of scientific advice to public sector authorities •an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience •the ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation We offer We offer an interesting and challenging job in an international environment focusing on education, research, public-sector consultancy and innovation, which contribute to enhancing the economy and improving social welfare. The post of research scientist is a permanent post as part of which the employee after a maximum of 4 years transfers to a position as senior research scientist provided that the employee is recommended for assessment and is deemed qualified.
