Novo Nordisk Research Unit is offering an International PostDoc fellowship to a highly motivated and ambitious candidate. The Diabetes Research Unit is committed to establish a portfolio of drug candidates with potential for diabetes intervention or prevention and for treatment of obesity. About the department The post-doctoral position is located in the lab of Professors Jan Nedergaard and Barbara Cannon, The Wenner-Gren Institute, University of Stockholm, with a minor part at Novo Nordisk in Måløv, Danmark. The candidate will be employed by Novo Nordisk, but will live in Sweden for the major part of the period. The job The project will focus on the contribution of brown adipose tissue to anti-obesity and anti-diabetics effects of analogues of selected hormones in mice at various temperatures. The plan is to investigate several endogenous pathways involved in body weight regulation and glucose metabolism. In vivo experiments with transgenic mouse models will be involved as well as in vitro and molecular biology methods. The aim of the project is to give a better understanding of the translational relevance of endogenous pathways and animal models in order to provide better treatment for humans with metabolic diseases such as obesity and diabetes. It is a collaborative project between the Diabetes Biology and Pharmacology units at Novo Nordisk, and The Wenner-Gren Institute, University of Stockholm, Sweden. Professor Jan Nedergaard and Professor Barbara Cannon are well recognized experts within the field of brown adipocytes tissue and its role in thermoregulation. Qualifications You hold a PhD in biology or pharmacology with relevance to obesity and metabolic disease. Solid knowledge of adipocyte cell biology is desirable. Experience with both in vitro and in vivo laborative methods is considered an advantage.
