About the department You will be working in the labs of Paul Monahan, MD (Departments of Pediatrics and Hematology/Oncology and Gene Therapy Center) and Ted Bateman, Ph.D. (Departments of Biomedical Engineering and Radiation Oncology) at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. There will be opportunity to travel to Denmark and benefit from the unique resources and expertise of Novo Nordisk A/S. At Novo Nordisk you will be part of Translational Haemophilia Pharmacology. Our goal is to provide improved treatments and access to care for people with haemophilia in all countries. We discover and test new, innovative biopharmaceuticals with the aim of developing the next generation treatments for haemophilia. This also means addressing haemophilic arthropathy, which is a common complication in haemophilia patients. The project team works in a flexible, collaborative and cross-functional setting, while keeping focus on quality and goals. The Job We offer an exciting and challenging job, where you will share and discuss research findings with highly experienced, qualified and motivated scientists in multidisciplinary research teams, with ample opportunities to establish international networks. The project will focus on developing engineering and microCT post image processing techniques as well as new histopathology and molecular techniques for assessing joint damage using in vivo models of haemophilic arthropathy. You will also join other projects in the Monahan and Bateman labs, including ongoing clinical trials in gene therapy, viral vector design for therapeutic gene delivery and radiation therapy. The position is offered as part of the Novo Nordisk R&D STAR Programme (Science, Talent, Attraction and Recruitment). This programme supports the brightest graduate students in biotechnology, life, medical and engineering sciences, who want to pursue a career in pharmaceutical R&D. You will be employed by Novo Nordisk A/S and become part of two laboratories located in high impact centres of excellence within haemophilia and Chapel Hill (NC) in Måløv (Copenhagen, Denmark) and thus be exposed to world class science on a daily basis. The duration of the position is 2 years and you must expect to relocate to North Carolina, US. Qualifications You have a PhD with a research background and track record within bone biology and molecular mechanisms, particularly IHC techniques. You can take advantage of UNC’s core imaging facility from day one and use it to expand and accelerate the current activities within the field. Excellent communication skills in English are required.
